Writers Wanted!

If your deliciously terrible submission is selected for the show, we pay you $42!

send submissions to unusualmortalityevent@gmail.com

We examine all work received and accept that which seems best. Submissions accepted for publication in the Unusual Mortality Event podcast may be dramatized in some fashion.

Know that we are here only to revel and delight in the unhappy depths of your tale.

Below is a short example of a submission:
title/author: The Unusual Mortality Event/ Julian Corpse
hook: A wasteoid on his morning walk is an unwitting witness to an annoying mass death event.
story: A sign in the ice plants read Warning: Unusual Mortality Event. There were large strange lumps the color of laundry water scattered up the beach. I went to the lump closest to me. It was a dead sea lion. It was all dead sea lions. Dead or dying. I guess it was some kind of blight. Further along a group of beach goers had gathered around one, taking photos. With a big cancelled eye the sea lion was just barely able to look over his shoulder at the gawkers. I don’t know if they knew he was dying.
The morning was ruined.
bio: I live in Los Angeles. In my spare time I experiment with correspondence.
Keep the following tips in mind:
-Have some stakes! What do you stand to gain? Lose? Why is what happens in the story important to you?
-There are no word count restrictions, but we are preferential to concise prose and shorter submissions.
-We encourage liberal use of the words horrible, terrible, and awful.
-Try to write a hook for your story. If you aren't comfortable writing your own, don't worry, we'll write one for you.
-The bio is optional, but encouraged.
-Send submissions to unusualmortalityevent@gmail.com
(also, poetry is fine)

Anyone contemplating a submission is encouraged to examine the show before sending a manuscript.
